Medical Transcriptionist: Best Alternative Job for Unemployed Nurses
Unemployed
nurses or those who are still waiting for the board exam result should not let
their skills and expertise stuck; hence, they should find other ways on how to
get going in spite of the lack of opportunities for nurses in the country.
During
the 5th Philippine Nursing Opportunities Conference Expo and Job
Fair conducted last September17-18, Medical Transcription was introduced to
hundreds of nurse attendees.
Aside
from giving empowering advises and nursing opportunities to the nurses, the
conference also aim to teach the nurses, especially those unemployed to look
for another alternative jobs where they can still practice their skills and
expertise.
Medical
Transcription is the process of transcribing either a phone call from patient
to doctor or vice versa or transcribing a situation in a medical room (either
during operation, check-up etc.)
So
basically, the job of a medical transcriptionist is to transcribe or type in
the computer what he/she hears during the whole case.
Nurses
are very much qualified, with most advantage for this position since they are
familiar with the medical terminologies. Aside from the medical terminologies,
a nurse can also identify easily what’s happening during the conversation which
would help him/her transcribe accurately.
The
salary for Medical Transcriptionist is much higher compared to the salary of a
real nurse in a hospital. Medical transcriptionist earned Php12,000 a month
compared to the Php8,000 a month in public hospitals.
The
demand for medical transcriptionist is increasing as the knowledge process
outsourcing (KPO) industry in the country is blooming.
Since we
have a shortage in nursing employment, many are advised to take risk and to
apply in alternative jobs while waiting for nursing opportunities.
