It is no
secret that the goal of many Filipino nurses is to work abroad. The high demand
for health care workers especially nurses in many First World countries creates
an opportunity for nursing professionals to receive big salaries and migrate to
another country.
However, it
is very rare for a nursing graduate to immediately fly overseas after passing the
board exam because most foreign employers require nurses to have a work experience.
Also it is recommended that a nurse should first get a local job to get an experience
that will prepare him/her for the challenges of working
overseas.
Most foreign
employers prefer a hospital work experience but since the number of nursing
graduates is more than the need of hospitals, many nursing graduates even the board
passers are forced to apply to a nursing job outside the hospital. Worse, even
in an industry where they cannot fully use what they have studied for. Some
accept hospital work but with minimal pay and sometimes the nurses are even the
one that pay the hospital to train them.
To solve
this problem, the government launches the Nurses Assigned in Rural Service (NARS)
program that hires registered nurses to work in hospitals and health centers in
various provinces. They receive allowance and the training they need to be
qualified abroad. Click here to know more about the NARS program and
to apply.
