Opportunities For Filipino Nurses Remain Minimal In Europe
Filipino nurses who want to work in European
countries may want to look for opportunities elsewhere. This is because
according to the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA),
opportunities remain minimal for foreign nurses in countries such as Switzerland, Denmark, etc.
The POEA issued the statement after reports of some
groups that there are many employment opportunities waiting for healthcare
workers in Europe. The government agency said
that contrary to the reports, only a few jobs are available for Filipino nurses
in the said region because they want to hire their own citizens first.
The POEA Jennifer Manalili said in a statement, “Most countries in the European
Union (EU) prioritize its citizens over foreigners looking for work in their
respective countries. Switzerland, for one, has temporarily blocked workers
from non-EU countries."
Manalili also added that Denmark is implementing a "green card
system" that would allow entry of foreign workers with specialized skills,
but POEA has yet to receive job orders for Filipino nurses from that country.
