The story
that was created by Christopher Millora, a nursing student from the West Visayas
State University
in Iloilo City
impressed the judges for the Philippines’
Bayer Young Environmental Envoy (BYEE) contest, making him the winner of the
competition via unanimous decision.
Upon reading Milora’s story, the judges were reportedly struck
by passion, enthusiasm and flair for drama. They are also convinced that the
nursing student would be an excellent nurse when he graduates.
For the contest, Milora submitted a children’s story that
deals wit superheroes that saves and protects the environment. He was sent to Leverkusen, Germany
as part of his prize to be one of the Philippines’ environmental representatives.
In Germany,
the foreign judges also saw and felt what the Filipino judges saw so Milora was
given the Bayer Young Environmental Leaders (BYEL) Award. It is the first time
that a Filipino was chosen as a recipient in the 12 years of existence of the
organization.
Through BYEE, Germany hopes to encourage their youths
to take part in their environmental activities. It is a project of the United
Nations Environment Program (Unep).
The corporate communications manager of Bayer Philippines
Inc., Reynaldo Cutanda quoted Dirk Frenzel, one of the judges and head of Bayer
corporate policy and sustainability. According to Cutanda who accompanied the Filipino
college students who were sent to Germany for the competition said, “You
could really see Millora’s passion to spread the message on the importance of
taking care of the environment with the way he tells his story.”
Cutanda also informed that environmental representatives from other countries
were amazed on how Milora delivered his message.
Cutanda said, “It was very evident that the other envoys were enthralled not
only by the characters he created. They were visibly amazed by his (Millora’s)
childlike flair and humor in telling his story.”
