The
Canadian government recently announced that a new type of visa for families will
be available starting December of this year. The new two-year, multi-entry super visa is for the parents and grandparents of immigrants in Canada.
The new super visa is designed to make it easier and faster for immigrants to bring their
families to Canada.
It was proposed after reports that the wait period of sponsorship of
"family class" applications in Canada took seven years or longer.
Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism Minister, Jason Kenney said, "Without
taking action, those times will continue to grow, and that is unacceptable."
"Action must be taken to cut the backlog, reduce the wait times, and
ensure that the parents and grandparents program is sustainable over the long
run," Kenney added.
Officials said that the multiple-entry "Parent and Grandparent Super
Visa" will have a validity of up to 10 years. Super visa holders would
also be allowed to stay in Canada
for two years or 24 months before a visa renewal will be required.
Officials said, "The new visas will take effect December 1 and it will be
issued, on average, within eight weeks of the application."
